About Me

I’m Melissa, the founder and maker behind Barton Beeswax Candles.

I work in Early Intervention—a career that has allowed me to support children and families for 14 years. It’s work I truly love. But outside of that, you’ll usually find me hand-pouring candles right here in my home, dreaming up new collections, or packing orders and getting ready for our next event within our local community.

My husband is my biggest supporter, and if you’ve ever stopped by one of our markets, chances are you’ve met him too. Together we’re raising six amazing kids, have a house full of dogs and cats, and I’ve proudly called Belchertown home for over 20 years.

Barton Beeswax Candles began because I wanted something better for my own home. I loved burning candles through every season—fresh citrus after cleaning, cozy pumpkin scents in the fall, and balsam at Christmastime—but I wanted candles that were thoughtfully made with premium ingredients and a clean burn. So I started making my own.

Every candle is hand-poured in small batches using our premium coconut-beeswax blend and carefully selected fragrances. My goal has always been simple: to create candles that help make your home feel warm, welcoming, and filled with the little moments that make life special.

As much as I love seeing our candles on the shelves of local shops (and it truly never gets old!), my favorite part of this business will always be our farmers markets and community events. There’s something so special about watching someone pick up a candle, make their way through all of the fragrances, and then seeing their face light up when they find the one. Whether it’s hearing someone say, “This smells just like my grandmother’s kitchen,” or seeing familiar faces return season after season to stock up on their favorites, those moments remind me why I started this business. The conversations, the friendships, and the sense of community we’ve found at our local markets mean more to me than I can put into words.

We’ve also been incredibly fortunate to partner with local businesses to create exclusive candle collections, custom gifts, fundraisers, and special community projects. Being able to support other small businesses while growing our own has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
